Sterling Bank Marks First Anniversary of SeaBaas Core Banking System

Sterling Bank Limited, recently recognised as Nigeria’s Best Workplace in Banking and Africa’s most agile company, has marked the first anniversary of its homegrown core banking system, SeaBaas.

Since its launch 12 months ago, SeaBaas has processed over two billion transactions, cut processing times by about 60 per cent, and boosted customer adoption by 66 per cent, setting new benchmarks for efficiency and reliability in African financial technology.

The platform underpins Sterling’s digital ecosystem, including OneBank, SterlingPro, Switch, and Specta, while supporting fintech integrations, agent banking, and third-party solutions. Notably, SeaBaas achieved 365 days of uninterrupted service in its first year.

“SeaBaas, to us, represents a proof of possibility,” said Abubakar Suleiman, Chief Executive of Sterling Bank. “It shows that Africa can build world-class technology, solve complex problems locally, and scale globally. Developed by Sterling Bank in partnership with Peerless Software, KPMG, Bazara Technologies, Revent Technologies, AppQuest Solutions, and the bank’s in-house engineers, SeaBaas has delivered significant cost savings, freed resources for reinvestment, and advanced financial inclusion.

Looking ahead, Sterling Bank said it plans to expand SeaBaas capabilities to address new challenges, reimagine financial systems, and project African innovation on a global scale.
