In his address to the nation on Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu celebrated Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, highlighting the progress of his administration’s reforms and announcing a new initiative aimed at involving Nigerian youth in governance.
Speaking to Nigerians, Tinubu assured citizens that the economic reforms introduced by his government were beginning to show positive results, despite the challenges many were facing due to rising costs of living. He urged for continued patience, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of all Nigerians.
In a significant move towards youth empowerment, Tinubu announced the launch of a 30-day National Youth Conference, aimed at fostering dialogue and engaging the country’s youth in nation-building. “We lead today with the future we wish to bequeath to our children in focus, recognizing that we cannot design a future that belongs to them without making them its architects,” Tinubu said.
The conference is expected to address pressing issues such as education, employment, innovation, and security. Tinubu emphasized the importance of listening to young voices, promising that the government will closely consider and implement the recommendations that emerge from the event.
During his speech, Tinubu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing security challenges and improving the economy. He shared progress on defeating terrorism and banditry and highlighted foreign investment inflows as a sign of growing confidence in Nigeria’s economy.
The president’s address comes as the nation grapples with inflation and rising energy costs, issues that critics argue are worsened by Tinubu’s policy decisions. However, Tinubu maintained that these measures were necessary for long-term growth and stability.
“We are Nigerians—resilient and tenacious. We always prevail and rise above our circumstances,” he stated, calling on citizens to remain hopeful and work together toward a better Nigeria.
