The National Assembly convened a historic Joint Sitting on Thursday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill, marking the third Joint Session of the 10th Assembly for the annual budget presentation.
Titled the “Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience, and Shared Prosperity,” the ₦58.18 trillion proposal signals a shift from economic adjustment to disciplined growth, with a focus on macroeconomic stability, job creation, human capital development, and social protection.
Key sectoral priorities include security, infrastructure, education, and health, reflecting the government’s commitment to stability, productivity, and inclusive development.
In his address, President Tinubu reiterated the administration’s dedication to strict budget execution, stressing that all implementation must comply with legislative appropriations and timelines.
The leadership of both chambers of the National Assembly emphasised the importance of Executive–Legislative collaboration to deliver tangible results. Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, urged responsibility over cynicism in advancing national interests, while Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, pledged rigorous scrutiny of the bill to ensure value for every naira appropriated.
Following the presentation, both chambers are set to commence legislative consideration of the 2026 Appropriation Bill as part of efforts to strengthen accountable governance and promote national development.
