President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Muslim faithful in Nigeria on the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, urging them to uphold the values of piety, empathy, and unity beyond the holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, the President called on Muslims to rededicate themselves to the teachings of Ramadan, particularly selflessness, perseverance, kindness, and compassion.
Tinubu encouraged adherents to extend acts of generosity to people of all faiths, stressing the importance of unity and shared humanity. He also urged Muslim leaders to use the occasion to pray for peace, prosperity, and national development.
Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, had declared Friday for the Eid celebration, congratulating Muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan and calling for continued prayers for national unity.
The Federal Government of Nigeria also declared March 19 and 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the festival. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, extending congratulations to Muslims nationwide on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
