European football’s governing body, UEFA, is preparing a potential legal complaint against FIFA president Gianni Infantino over his now-shelved plan to introduce private financing into the World Cup, according to a document seen by AFP.
The document, filed in a Florida court in the United States, states that UEFA is considering legal action related to the proposal put forward by FIFA.
“UEFA is actively considering legal action arising out of and in connection with the plan proposed by FIFA,” the document said.
It added that UEFA and other interested parties were preparing to bring criminal claims in Switzerland against Infantino and potentially other FIFA officials and advisers.
The proposed claims would relate to alleged “criminal mismanagement” under Article 158 of the Swiss Criminal Code.
The legal move centres on FIFA’s previously proposed plan to bring private financing into the World Cup, although the proposal has since been shelved.
