Blogger Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, disclosed on Monday how he obtained a contentious phone recording of cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky. This revelation occurred as he appeared before a House of Representatives panel investigating bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
During the session, officials from both the EFCC and NCoS were present as the Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions began their investigation into the bribery and corruption allegations made by VeryDarkMan.
Initially, the blogger declined to address the committee due to the absence of Bobrisky, who had been invited but sent a lawyer in his place. However, lawmakers challenged this stance, moving to compel VeryDarkMan to discuss the controversial voice recording he had released.
Despite the committee’s warnings that they might invoke legislative powers to order his arrest, VeryDarkMan initially resisted, insisting that his lawyer would speak on his behalf. Ultimately, after his lawyer’s urging, he agreed to address the committee.
In his testimony, VeryDarkMan provided details on the authenticity of the audio recording, stating it was received from an individual to whom Bobrisky allegedly owed money. He also submitted portions of the recording to the committee for review.
In a viral video, VeryDarkMan claimed that Bobrisky paid ₦15 million to have money laundering charges dropped against him during his naira spraying incident in April, which led to a six-month prison sentence. He further alleged that Bobrisky paid additional sums to secure a preferential placement within the prison system.
Bobrisky has since denied these allegations, while the EFCC and NCoS have announced their intention to investigate the claims made by VeryDarkMan. Additionally, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called upon Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to conduct an independent investigation into the allegations raised by the blogger.
