Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with immediate effect.
Ochei confirmed his resignation in a letter dated May 8, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward 4 Chairman in Onicha-Olona, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.
He described the decision as the outcome of careful reflection and personal consideration, expressing appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve.
“This decision was reached after careful reflection and personal consideration. I remain grateful for the opportunity given to me to serve and associate with the party over the years,” he said.
Ochei also thanked the APC leadership at all levels for their support, cooperation and goodwill during his time in the party.
He said his political journey in the APC had been marked by efforts to promote inclusion and democratic participation, particularly among youths and women.
Explaining his exit, the former speaker said political institutions must continuously evolve to reflect fairness, inclusion and the aspirations of the people.
“It is in recognition of this need for broader growth and the continuation of my political convictions that I have chosen to chart a new course,” he stated.
He stressed that his decision was not driven by bitterness or hostility, but by a desire to pursue his political convictions and vision for his constituents.
Although he did not disclose his next political destination, Ochei urged his supporters to remain peaceful and committed to democratic values.
Ochei served as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2014 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and represented Aniocha North Constituency.
