Coach Bala Nikyu has said he is very elated to watch his side scored four goals against a pitiable Sunshine Stars on Sunday in the NPFL.
Nasarawa United trashed Sunshine 4-0 at Lafia Township and the goals were enough to keep them second on the table ahead of Kano Pillars and Enyimba.
The experienced gaffer opined that the number of goals scored by the team could play a huge role in the race for the CAF Champions League ticket.
He said: “In football, you cannot predict before the game. As far as this game is concerned, it has gotten to a crucial stage, where a goal is as important as gold. So 4 goals is a massive haul for us. And if not for the chances we missed later in the game, it could have gone up to 6 or 7”.
On the result, The former National team coach said, the result was the true replication of his side performance and wants them to keep it until the last day of the campaign.
”We drew them in the first round and expected a good match”.
“For now, we are playing for the fans but at the same time, we are not playing for the fans. My reason for saying this is that we need to go and represent ourselves first by winning, then the fans will be happy”.
He however stated that the Solid Miners will continue to fight and ensure they keep their current spot on the league table where they sit second, with Akwa united now just a win away from winning the Nigeria Premier League title after match day 35.
Nkiyu speaking in a chat with brila.net said that the task is still tough ahead and the team won’t relent yet because there is still a fight even to keep their current spot on the league table with Nasarawa united the second-placed team on the same points 61 same as the third and fourth-placed team Kano Pillars and Enyimba respectively with three games to go.
