The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, describing him as inconsistent in his political positions.
Wike alleged that prior to the recently concluded convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed approached him with a request to produce the party’s National Secretary, which he said he declined. He also claimed that in 2022, the Bauchi governor had urged him to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu, then the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but later reversed his position.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing projects in Jahi and Kuje, Abuja, Wike said such actions reflected what he described as the governor’s unstable character. He also expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on key infrastructure projects, including the Jahi–Gwarimpa link bridge, the Airport Expressway to Kuje, and the Kuje–Gwagwalada road, noting they are slated for commissioning to mark the third anniversary of Tinubu’s administration.
The minister dismissed Mohammed’s allegation that he was planted to destabilise the PDP, describing it as baseless and “embarrassing.” He accused the governor of frequently shifting positions, urging Nigerians to be cautious of politicians who, according to him, lack consistency.
Wike further criticised Mohammed’s demand for the PDP National Secretary position for his faction, describing him as politically weakened and unable to negotiate from a position of strength.
He maintained that the recent PDP convention demonstrated the party’s resilience despite internal challenges. Wike also reaffirmed his commitment to remain in the PDP while continuing to support President Tinubu, a stance he said he has consistently held since 2022.
