Zamfara Governor’s Chief of Staff Survives Gunmen Attack

By Ayomide Otitoju

The Chief of Staff to the Zamfara State Governor, Mouktar Lugga, narrowly escaped an attack by gunmen on Thursday evening along the Gusau–Funtua highway, with no casualties reported.

The ambush occurred around 6:00 p.m. near Kucheri village in Tsafe Local Government Area, when armed assailants reportedly opened fire on Lugga’s convoy from both sides of the road. A bullet pierced the vehicle’s windscreen, narrowly missing the driver, while another attacker’s gun reportedly malfunctioned at close range.

Despite the attack, the driver successfully manoeuvred the vehicle to safety. Lugga confirmed the incident in a phone interview with Channels Television, saying, “They emerged from the bush and shot at my vehicle, but Alhamdulillah, we are all safe. The bullet did not hit anyone.”

The incident adds to a growing number of security challenges along major highways in Zamfara State, which has been plagued by frequent attacks from armed groups.
