Nigerian singer Alexander Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has opened up about a near-death experience he attributes to a spiritual attack, saying he vomited blood for six months around 2009–2010.
In an interview on The Nancy Isime Show, 9ice said the illness defied medical diagnosis and only ceased after he consulted a traditional Ifa priest.
“I’m a traditionalist, not a Christian or Muslim,” he said. “I wish I had embraced my African roots earlier.”
Referencing Fela Kuti, 9ice highlighted how traditional African spirituality is often misunderstood or dismissed. He urged fellow Africans to reconnect with indigenous beliefs rather than rely solely on imported religions.
His revelation sheds light on the spiritual struggles many Nigerian entertainers face behind the scenes and reflects the enduring influence of traditional belief systems.
