The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, for allegedly inciting unrest over Nigeria’s economic challenges. In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC condemned Amaechi’s recent remarks urging Nigerian youth to protest against the high cost of living.
Morka described the former Rivers State governor’s comments as “insensitive, god-awful, and unpatriotic.” He accused Amaechi of being a long-time beneficiary of state resources and a key figure in the economic issues he now seeks to exploit for political gain.
“Amaechi’s incitement to violence is hypocritical and dangerous,” the statement read. “He has spent most of his adult life as a dependent on state resources, holding various positions of power, yet now berates Nigerians from the comfort of his proverbial glass house.”
The APC noted that Amaechi, a two-term governor and former minister, was a prominent participant in policies that contributed to the nation’s current economic woes. The party also accused him of trying to manipulate public sentiment for personal political gain.
Morka’s statement added, “If those in power are stealing, as Amaechi alleges, how is it that he, after holding top positions for over two decades, now claims he can’t afford to buy diesel?”
The APC further accused Amaechi of seeking to stir unrest along with other opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The statement emphasized that Nigerians had made their choice in the last election and would not be drawn into street violence.
“While the current economic reforms may cause discomfort, they are necessary for long-term benefits. Nigerians understand that these challenges are temporary and will soon give way to lasting improvements,” the party said.
Morka concluded by urging Nigerians to reject calls for anarchy from Amaechi and his allies, encouraging the public to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration in its efforts to transform the economy.
