Americans across the political divide have united in mourning the death of country music legend Dolly Parton, celebrating her music, philanthropy and film career.

President Donald Trump ordered flags across the United States to be lowered for a week in honour of Parton, describing her death as a “true loss for millions of people.”
“Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “There has never been anyone like her, and never will.”
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani described Parton’s death as “truly heartbreaking,” praising her as “an extraordinary person and an irreplaceable champion of the working class.”
“We are a better country because of her,” Mamdani said.
Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer also paid tribute, describing Parton as “a true legend and force for good.”
Parton’s longtime co-star Lily Tomlin shared a black-and-white photograph of the pair from decades ago, simply captioning it, “No words.”
Actor, singer and “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane said the world was “a dimmer place without her,” recalling his experience working with Parton on “The Orville.”
MacFarlane praised her kindness, generosity and authenticity, saying her leadership was matched by the genuine love and trust of those who worked with her.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos also shared a photograph of himself with Parton, saying she spent her life demonstrating what it meant to “lead with love.”
Bezos described Parton as a brilliant songwriter, cultural icon and philanthropist who helped promote reading and learning among millions of children around the world.
