In a bid to accelerate the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cleaner and more affordable fuel alternative in Nigeria, NNPC Retail Limited (NRL), a subsidiary of NNPC Ltd, has launched a comprehensive awareness campaign, reaching over 1,000 auto mechanics across the country.

The initiative, aimed at promoting the benefits of CNG conversion, also highlighted NRL’s Oleum lubricant range, which is renowned for its superior performance in both gasoline and CNG-powered vehicles. This move aligns with NRL’s commitment to driving Nigeria’s transition to cleaner, sustainable energy sources while ensuring that auto artisans are well-informed about emerging automotive trends.

At the conference, mechanics were given practical demonstrations on the technical process of converting vehicles from gasoline to CNG, providing them with firsthand insights into the benefits and mechanics of the conversion.

Speaking at the event, Baba Shettima Kukawa, Executive Director of Retail Operations & Mobility at NRL, emphasized the growing importance of CNG conversion skills for the future of Nigeria’s automotive industry.

“Sensitizing mechanics on the significance of CNG adoption is vital to achieving Nigeria’s long-term energy goals,” Kukawa stated. “While this engagement focused on raising awareness, we encourage artisans to actively pursue the necessary skills to contribute to this transformative shift towards cleaner and more affordable fuel options. This initiative is a crucial step in advancing the nation’s transition to sustainable energy.”

The event received praise from the leadership of the Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN) and the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA), who lauded NRL’s proactive approach. Both associations called for the initiative’s expansion to include more mechanics and technicians nationwide, stressing the need for continued efforts to support Nigeria’s move toward cleaner energy solutions.

In addition to the awareness campaign, NNPC Retail further supported the local automotive sector by providing mechanics with coveralls, toolboxes, and generators to enhance their business operations and promote sustainability.

NNPC Retail’s focus on promoting CNG as an alternative fuel aligns with NNPC Ltd’s broader strategic vision of reducing the environmental impact of Nigeria’s energy consumption while making fuel more affordable for consumers.
