Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside family members, government officials, and associates, will on Thursday, May 15, commemorate the one-year remembrance of the late Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Gboyega Soyannwo, with a Memorial and Thanksgiving Service scheduled to hold at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, The Covenant House, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Mr. Soyannwo, who passed away on May 15, 2024, at the age of 55 after a brief illness, was laid to rest on May 23, 2024, at the Vaults and Gardens following a funeral service at RCCG’s City of David Parish, also in Victoria Island.
Reflecting on the one-year anniversary of his passing, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed deep emotions, describing Soyannwo as more than a colleague. “I remember former Deputy Chief of Staff, Gboyega Soyannwo, who we lost about one year ago. We celebrate the beautiful life Gboyega lived and the impact he had on his family, friends, associates, the civil servants, and the political office holders in Lagos State in general,” the Governor said.
Sanwo-Olu paid tribute to Soyannwo’s loyalty and unwavering commitment to the Lagos administration’s vision. “Soyannwo was not only my Deputy Chief of Staff by title; he was my brother, an armour-bearer, a confidante, and a faithful believer in our collective dream of a Greater Lagos. He worked passionately with me to ensure the delivery of good governance and the dividends of democracy to millions of Lagosians,” he added.
The Governor also offered prayers for the family left behind. “Though Gboyega is no longer with us, his total dedication and service to Lagos State will never be forgotten. As we mark this one-year remembrance, my prayers are with his beloved wife, Yewande, their children, and the entire family. May God continue to strengthen and be with them.”
The remembrance service is expected to draw dignitaries, senior government officials, and close associates of the late public servant, who is remembered for his impactful contributions to the state and his legacy of service.
