Abba Kabir Yusuf, Governor of Kano State, has welcomed former governor and senator, Ibrahim Shekarau, into the All Progressives Congress (APC), following Shekarau’s formal defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, it was disclosed that arrangements are underway to organise a formal reception for the former governor, in consultation with the party’s national leadership.
The statement noted that APC in Kano has continued to record growing support and internal consolidation, describing the party as a dominant political force in the state ahead of future elections.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence that the party is well-positioned for upcoming electoral contests, citing unity, strategic alignment, and strengthened grassroots mobilisation as key advantages.
He also urged party members to remain committed and continue mobilising support as preparations intensify for future political activities.
Shekarau had earlier on Sunday announced his return to the APC at his residence in Kano, marking a significant political realignment in the state.
