Access Bank Tops Brand Finance Ranking at ₦773.2bn Despite Pressures

By Ayomide Otitoju

Access Bank Plc has been ranked Nigeria’s most valuable brand for the fifth consecutive year by Brand Finance, reinforcing its leadership in the country’s financial services sector.

The recognition was announced in the Brand Finance Nigeria 25 2026 report, which evaluates leading brands based on value, strength, and overall business performance. Access Bank retained the top position with a brand value of ₦773.2 billion, despite marginal declines attributed to prevailing macroeconomic pressures.

According to the report, the slight dip reflects a deliberate strategic shift by the bank toward long-term growth, regional expansion, and international scaling, rather than short-term domestic gains. Brand Finance noted that this approach has helped sustain the bank’s resilience and market leadership.

The report highlighted Access Bank’s transformation from a domestic market leader into a cross-continental financial institution, with increased contributions from its African operations helping to offset weaker earnings in Nigeria. This repositioning aligns with the bank’s ambition to serve as a gateway between Africa and global financial markets.

In addition to its top ranking by value, Access Bank improved its standing on the Brand Strength Index, rising to third place nationally with a score of 88.7 out of 100 and maintaining an AAA rating. Brand Finance attributed this to stronger brand consistency across markets and clearer strategic positioning following international acquisitions.

Commenting on the report, Babatunde Odumeru, Managing Director of Brand Finance Nigeria, said trust has become a critical driver of business growth, with brands that prioritised reliability and long-term investment emerging stronger in a challenging economic environment.

He added that the banking and manufacturing sectors dominated the rankings, reflecting resilience and increasing digital adoption in converting customer engagement into loyalty.

The Brand Finance Nigeria 25 report is published annually and provides a comprehensive assessment of the country’s top brands using a combination of valuation metrics and market analysis.
