As the world commemorates World Creativity and Innovation Day 2026, the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership has emphasised the role of innovation, collaboration and execution in advancing sustainable development and economic transformation.
Aligned with the theme “Recreating Tomorrow Today,” the Partnership called on stakeholders across the public and private sectors to move beyond ideation to actionable innovation, stressing that current global challenges require practical solutions, cross-border cooperation and measurable outcomes.
NCSP noted that the observance reinforces the importance of creativity and critical thinking in achieving the United Nations-backed Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in tackling economic inequality, climate change and promoting inclusive growth.
The Partnership said its ongoing engagements between Nigeria and China are designed to translate innovation into real-sector outcomes, with focus on infrastructure, technology, manufacturing and the creative economy. It added that, as a bilateral platform, it continues to facilitate knowledge transfer, deepen investment linkages and support scalable solutions that enhance global competitiveness.
Speaking on the significance of the day, Director-General of NCSP, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, underscored the need for outcome-driven innovation.
“Creativity must go beyond ideas. It must lead to action. This is how we solve real problems, create opportunities, and shape a better future,” he said, noting that the Partnership is focused on translating innovative thinking into tangible economic benefits.
Tegbe also highlighted the importance of structured collaboration in sustaining innovation ecosystems, stating that the combination of Nigerian talent and Chinese technological expertise presents significant opportunities across sectors.
“Our role is to build bridges where Nigerian ingenuity meets Chinese advancement. When we combine these strengths, we unlock transformative possibilities across sectors,” he added.
The observance also spotlighted the growing importance of the creative economy as a driver of job creation, enterprise development and cultural exchange. NCSP said its programmes are aligned with this opportunity, particularly in supporting talent development, entrepreneurship and global partnerships.
It maintained that sustained progress would depend on the ability of institutions and nations to convert ideas into execution and collaboration into measurable impact.
