The governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Adebayo Simon Adewale, has withdrawn from Saturday’s Osun State governorship election and endorsed incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Adewale announced his decision at a press conference on Thursday, saying it was a conscious choice to place the interest of Osun State above his personal ambition.
He urged members of the APM and his supporters across the state to vote for Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, during the election.
The APM candidate said his decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, supporters and other stakeholders, as well as careful consideration of the state’s political situation.
According to him, Adeleke deserves another term to consolidate the achievements of his administration and further advance development in the state.
Adewale said politics should be about serving the people, adding that his withdrawal and endorsement of Adeleke were aimed at promoting peace, stability, development and the collective interest of Osun State.
He said the decision was not influenced by pressure or personal interest but was based on what he considered to be in the best interest of the state.
Adewale subsequently declared his full support for Adeleke’s re-election and called on APM members, his supporters and other residents of Osun State to support the governor.
