African Democratic Congress has appointed former governors Liyel Imoke and Abdulfatah Ahmed to head key committees for its 2027 presidential primaries.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, Imoke will chair the Presidential Screening Committee, while Ahmed will head the Presidential Election Committee.

The party said the appointments are aimed at strengthening transparency, credibility, and fairness in its internal electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Under the arrangement, the screening committee will vet aspirants, while the election committee will oversee the conduct of the primaries. The party also constituted additional panels, including a Presidential Appeals Committee, to handle disputes arising from the process.

According to the statement, the committees comprise a mix of former public officials, senior legal practitioners, retired military officers, and political figures, all selected to reinforce confidence in the party’s internal democracy.

The ADC said the structure reflects its commitment to credible, transparent, and well-organised primaries as it prepares for the upcoming election cycle.
