The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has conferred the chieftaincy title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland on Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
The ceremony, held on Sunday at the Alaafin’s palace in Oyo, drew dignitaries from across the country and beyond. Seyi Tinubu arrived at the palace accompanied by his wife, Layal, alongside associates and well-wishers.
At the same event, the Alaafin also conferred the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland on Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari, a former Governor of Zamfara State and current representative of Zamfara West in the Senate, where he chairs the Committee on Water Resources and Sanitation. Yari was accompanied by a delegation of northern senators and political leaders.
According to the Alaafin’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the Okanlomo title symbolises love, compassion and justice, and reflects a role that bridges the physical and spiritual realms. He added that both titles come with responsibilities, including the promotion of Yoruba culture, advisory roles to the Alaafin, fostering unity, and advancing education and social welfare.
Born on October 13, 1985, Seyi Tinubu is a lawyer and entrepreneur. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws in Corporate and Commercial Law from the University of Buckingham in the United Kingdom and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2013.
The ceremony attracted a large crowd of high-profile guests, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio; the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu; former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; members of the Federal Executive Council; and traditional rulers from Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
Also in attendance were the Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; the Statistician-General of the Federation, Adeyemi Adeniran; Senator Teslim Folarin; and former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
