Former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi says he would beat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election if nominated by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking during an X Spaces discussion on Saturday, Amaechi claimed familiarity with Tinubu’s political style gives him an advantage. He also denied ever engaging in electoral malpractice, saying he has repeatedly refused APC appointments to its election committees.
“I challenge any politician, living or dead, to say I was part of rigging,” he said, alleging that election fraud in Nigeria often involves governors and diverted public funds.
Amaechi pledged to end electoral malpractice if elected president, and revealed he co-initiated talks that led to the formation of the current opposition coalition under the ADC. The group includes Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Babachir Lawal, Boss Mustapha, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and Bolaji Abdullahi, among others.
