At the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), Uzor Arukwe clinched the Best Lead Actor award for his role in the fantasy epic Colours of Fire.
Arukwe was honoured for his portrayal of Akinbode in the film directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, edging out strong contenders including Lateef Adedimeji, Mike Ezuruonye, Kanayo O. Kanayo and Wale Ojo in one of the night’s most competitive categories.
Visibly emotional during his acceptance speech, Arukwe said he did not anticipate the win, thanking colleagues, filmmakers and fans for their support throughout his career.
“My category was crazy. This is for everybody, all my fellow nominees. You guys were amazing,” he said, drawing applause from the audience.
The win further cements Arukwe’s growing reputation as one of Nollywood’s most versatile actors, known for roles across romantic dramas, comedies and action films.
His performance in Colours of Fire has been widely praised as one of the standout moments of his career, showcasing a more vulnerable and layered portrayal.
The award comes amid heightened popularity for the actor following his role as Obiora, also known as “Odogwu,” in the 2025 romantic films Love in Every Word and Love in Every Word 2: The Wedding, produced by Omoni Oboli.
Born in Imo State, Arukwe began his career after working in the telecommunications sector and has since appeared in notable productions including Sugar Rush, A Tribe Called Judah and Code Wilo.
His AMVCA victory marks a significant milestone in a steadily rising Nollywood career.
