The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), led by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has approved an annual premium for a comprehensive asset insurance policy for the newly completed Government House, known as the Light House Awka. The agreement, endorsed for an initial five-year term, is aimed at safeguarding the state’s multi-billion-naira investment in the facility.
Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, disclosed the development in a statement issued after the 23rd ANSEC meeting held on Monday, 17 November 2025, at the Light House Awka. He noted that the Council also approved the supply and installation of additional furniture for the Government House Theatre and Multi-purpose Hall.
In further decisions, ANSEC endorsed the modification and completion of an abandoned court building, alongside the renovation and upgrade of structures within the Court of Appeal Complex in Awka. The Council also approved the rehabilitation of failed portions of Court Road and Obunagu Road within the state capital.
These approvals follow Governor Soludo’s recent approval of the upgrade of the State High Court, Awka, and the furnishing of judges’ residences at the Judges’ Quarters in Onitsha as part of ongoing judicial infrastructure regeneration.
At the meeting, ANSEC reaffirmed its support for university autonomy in the appointment of vice chancellors and formally welcomed the new Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Ugochukwu Anyaehie, wishing him a successful tenure.
The Council also deliberated on preparations for a vibrant Christmas celebration themed “Onwa Dezemba.” The festivities are expected to take place at venues including the Solution Fun City and the newly remodeled Ekwueme Square. Planned activities include masquerade festivals, Christmas carols, and musical performances featuring top Nigerian artistes.
“This is to make the Christmas celebration unlike any other,” Mefor said, noting that the administration aims to deliver an electrifying and memorable holiday season for residents and visitors.
