The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has expressed deep condolences to the family, friends, and associates of Mr. Segun Awolowo Jnr, who passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2023, at the age of 62.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo described Awolowo as a distinguished lawyer, national patriot, and influential figure in Nigeria and Africa’s investment and export sectors, known for his dedication to excellence and public service.
“As a grandson of the illustrious Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Segun Awolowo Jnr embodied the principles of integrity, service, and leadership championed by his grandfather,” Soludo said. “He was a proud scion of the Awolowo family and a key contributor to Nigeria’s economic development, tirelessly working to advance trade and investment across the continent.”
Governor Soludo highlighted Awolowo’s tenure as Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council from 2013 to 2021, during which he promoted initiatives that fostered economic growth and sustainable development. His dedication to entrepreneurship and innovation left a lasting impact on businesses and individuals, reinforcing the private sector’s role in national progress.
In July 2021, Awolowo was unanimously elected President of the National Trade Promotion Organisations for ECOWAS member states, reflecting his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s presence in global markets.
Governor Soludo described his passing as a significant loss for his family, Nigeria, and Africa. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Awolowo family, the Ogun State government, and all who knew him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his loved ones find comfort in this difficult time.”
