The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), under the leadership of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the award of a contract for the landscaping of the car park at the Trauma Centre of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka.
The contract was awarded to Triseconds Resources Ltd as part of ongoing efforts by the Soludo administration to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the state.
The State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, disclosed that the approval was granted during the 25th meeting of the Executive Council held at the Lighthouse, Awka, on December 15, 2025, where several key policy and development decisions were taken.
Healthcare remains a major priority of the Soludo administration and has been given significant attention in the 2026 Budget Proposal. The budget, currently before the Anambra State House of Assembly, provides for ₦162.6 billion in recurrent expenditure and ₦595.3 billion in capital expenditure, with strong emphasis on education and healthcare infrastructure, including the completion of ongoing medical projects.
According to the government, planned interventions include the completion of the College of Nursing and the construction of a specialist teaching hospital with a focus on oncology, as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare ecosystem.
Since assuming office, Governor Soludo’s administration has provided free antenatal and delivery services to over 161,197 pregnant women, including 594 free caesarean sections recorded with zero mortality. The initiative is aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality while improving overall health outcomes.
The government has also constructed four new general hospitals in local government areas that previously had none and is nearing completion of the construction, rehabilitation, and equipping of 326 primary healthcare centres across the state. These facilities are being fitted with solar power, boreholes, and essential medical equipment to ensure reliable and quality service delivery.
Governor Soludo has further reiterated his commitment to completing the coordinated wholesale centre in Oba, projected to become the largest drug market in Africa, as part of efforts to improve access to affordable and regulated pharmaceuticals.
In recognition of these efforts, the governor was named the most performing governor in primary healthcare in the Southeast and nationwide in 2024. The recognition came with cash awards totaling $1.2 million, comprising $500,000 for regional performance and $700,000 for overall excellence in the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge.
