Armed Bandits Attack Katsina Communities, Abduct Residents

By Ayomide Otitoju

Several communities in Katsina State were reportedly attacked by armed bandits on Monday night, with multiple residents abducted, eyewitnesses told Channels Television on Tuesday.

Sources said the attacks began in Unguwar Alhaji Barau before spreading to Gidan Dan Mai-gizo and Gidan Hazo, all in Na’alma Ward, Malumfashi Local Government Area. The assailants, heavily armed, operated for several hours, causing chaos in the affected areas.

The exact number of casualties and abducted persons remains unclear, as security forces have yet to issue an official statement. Katsina Police Command spokesman Abubakar Sadiq told Channels Television he was unaware of the attacks but promised to follow up. “Please, let me check because I’m just hearing about the attack from you now. I will be back to you, please,” he said.

Malumfashi has long been a hotspot for bandit attacks, despite recent peace agreements between local authorities and armed groups. The fresh assaults follow the August 19, 2025, mosque attack in the same area, where gunmen killed at least 32 worshippers at Unguwar Mantau Community.
