Charles Uwagbai’s new thriller, ‘Charlie Charlie,’ will start screening at cinemas across Nigeria today, Friday, July 16.
The movie, which was screened on Sunday at PEFTI Film Institute, Lagos, touched on many social issues ranging from human trafficking, drug peddling, and desperation for greener pastures.
The private screening had Nollywood stars like Jigan, Angela Oguavoen, Christian Prince Ochiagha, and filmmaker Oakfil Okey Ezugwu, in attendance.
Produced by Charles Uwagbai and Monica Swaida, and directed by Uwagbai, the movie features film stars like Omoni Oboli, Monica Swaida, Alexx Ekubo, Chioma Akpotha, Etinosa Idemudia, and Ghana’s Prince David Osei.
Uwagbai, who directed the popular TV series, ‘Blood of Enogie’, said the movie is intended to sensitise viewers on the dangers of desperately seeking to travel abroad.
He said: ”Charlie Charlie is a film about money laundering, human trafficking, and the people involved in it. A lot of people just wake up and say they’re going abroad without getting the full details of things to expect while on the road.
“The human trafficking industry is quite huge and widespread and every voice against it is a step in the right direction. It’s meant to make an impact, even if it means educating people out there that it’s dangerous going this way. The movie is a comedy, thriller and an action drama too.”
Shot in Lagos, Ghana, and Europe, it tells the stories of two men – Charles Obinna, a Nigerian cartel member, and Kofi Badu a.k.a. Charlie, an innocent Ghanaian, who unfortunately looks just like Charles. Kofi is accidentally caught in the web of human trafficking and money laundering operations running from Nigeria through Ghana, Morocco to Europe. Their mistaken identity puts a dent in the cartel business, causing the cartel loss of money.
