Coventry City have completed the signing of striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest for a reported £9 million fee.
The 29-year-old Nigeria international spent the last four seasons in the Premier League with Forest, scoring 21 league goals in 90 appearances.
Awoniyi joined Forest in 2022 and scored 10 league goals in his first season, helping the club retain their Premier League status.
He received a special farewell from Forest last weekend, with his teammates carrying him aloft at the City Ground to mark his departure.
“I’m really looking forward to working with my new teammates. I have seen how amazing they have been last season,” Awoniyi said.
“Coming up from the Championship, they were incredible and now I am just excited to join them and get started for the new season.”
The striker fell down the pecking order at Forest last season but still scored four goals in 17 appearances.
Awoniyi began his professional career at Liverpool before spending loan spells with FSV Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Mouscron and Gent.
He later had loan spells at Mainz and Union Berlin before joining the German club permanently.
Awoniyi scored 20 goals in all competitions for Union Berlin during the 2021/22 season, including four in the UEFA Conference League.
His form earned him a move to Forest, who paid a then club-record £17 million for his services in the summer of 2022.
During his time at Forest, Awoniyi helped the club reach the League Cup semi-finals and qualify for European competition in the 2024/25 season.
