Fidelity Bank Plc has provided food relief to more than 1,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State through its Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, as part of efforts to combat hunger and support vulnerable communities.
The humanitarian outreach, carried out in partnership with the Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Office and supported by the ABBASID Charity Foundation, saw displaced families in transit camps receive food items, including rice, noodles and tomatoes.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, the bank’s Divisional Head of Brand and Communications, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative reflects Fidelity Bank’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups through meaningful social interventions.
According to him, the Fidelity Food Bank was established to help reduce hunger and provide relief to disadvantaged communities across Nigeria, adding that the intervention in Mangu is aimed at easing the burden on families displaced by insecurity.
He noted that the initiative has become a key platform through which the bank contributes to national efforts to address food insecurity and improve the welfare of underserved communities.
Also speaking, the Project Coordinator of the Plateau State SDGs Office, Mrs. Nanbam Danjuma-Lot, described the intervention as timely, noting that many families displaced by violent attacks continue to face severe hardship.
She said the partnership with Fidelity Bank and other humanitarian organisations demonstrates a shared commitment to supporting affected communities and helping them rebuild their lives.
Founder of the ABBASID Charity Foundation, Mrs. Hauwa Abbas, said collaboration with Fidelity Bank has enabled the foundation to deliver food assistance to between 32 and 40 communities across Nigeria, reaching families affected by hunger and economic hardship.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Titus Abednago, Village Head of Changal Community, thanked Fidelity Bank, the Plateau State Government and its partners for the support, describing the intervention as a source of hope for displaced families.
He also appealed for sustained efforts to restore peace in affected communities to enable residents return to their farms and rebuild their livelihoods.
The food distribution forms part of Fidelity Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme aimed at addressing food insecurity and providing support to vulnerable populations across the country.
