Manchester City forward Phil Foden has signed a four-year contract extension, providing a major boost to new manager Enzo Maresca ahead of the new season.
The new deal, announced on Wednesday, secures the England international’s future at the club after a difficult campaign disrupted by injuries and inconsistent form. Foden’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of the upcoming season, while the new agreement includes an option for a further one-year extension.
Speaking after signing the contract, Foden said committing his future to Manchester City was a special moment.
“Committing my future to City means everything to me. Playing for this club is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt,” he said.
The 26-year-old added that he remains determined to help the club win more trophies after enjoying one of the most successful periods in City’s history.
A product of Manchester City’s academy, Foden has won six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups and five League Cups. He has scored 110 goals in 369 appearances for the club.
The midfielder endured a challenging season marked by injuries and was omitted from England’s squad for the recent FIFA World Cup. He also revealed last year that he had been dealing with mental health challenges while struggling to rediscover his best form.
Foden started only seven of City’s final 26 matches under former manager Pep Guardiola, who stepped down at the end of the season.
The England star expressed excitement about working with Maresca, who previously served as Guardiola’s assistant during City’s treble-winning campaign in the 2022–23 season.
Foden praised the Italian coach’s attention to detail and possession-based style of play, saying it suits his game and expressing confidence about the club’s future under the new manager.
