FirstBank Unveils 2024 CR&S Week Focused on Empowerment

By Ayomide Otitoju

FirstBank, West Africa’s premier financial institution, has officially announced the commencement of its 2024 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CR&S) Week, scheduled to take place from August 19 to 24. This year’s event aims to deepen the bank’s commitment to empowering communities, reducing environmental impact, and advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The CR&S Week is a dedicated period for FirstBank Group employees spanning FirstBank Nigeria, FirstBank UK, and subsidiaries across Gambia, Sierra Leone, DRC, Guinea, Ghana, Senegal, as well as First Pension and First Nominees to actively engage in initiatives that align with the bank’s strategic approach to corporate responsibility and sustainability.

Now in its eighth year, FirstBank’s CR&S Week is a cornerstone of the bank’s philosophy of kindness, embodied in the “Start Performing Acts of Random Kindness” (SPARK) initiative. This program, rooted in values of compassion, civility, and charity, saw participation from eight countries in 2023, impacting over 30,000 lives through collaboration with more than 80 charities and NGOs.

The 2024 CR&S Week promises to be impactful, with key initiatives including:

Tree Planting: FirstBank will plant 30,000 trees across Nigeria, continuing its pledge to plant 50,000 trees by 2025 in partnership with the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF).
Women Empowerment: The bank will support women in Jigawa and Plateau States by raising awareness, conducting surgeries, and providing post-care kits for those living with Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF).
Charity Visits: FirstBank will visit orphanages, IDP camps, and other charities across Nigeria, SSA markets, and the UK, demonstrating kindness and supporting vulnerable communities.
Kind Comments: Staff and management will share kind comments throughout the week, promoting a culture of compassion and civility across the organization.
For over 130 years, FirstBank has been woven into the fabric of society, enabling success for its customers and communities. These initiatives reflect the bank’s commitment to environmental stewardship and human welfare, in line with its sustainability strategic pillars and support for the Green Recovery Nigeria initiative.

Folake Ani-Mumuney, Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications at FirstBank, expressed the bank’s ongoing dedication to positive community impact. “At FirstBank, we remain committed to creating a positive impact in the lives of our customers and the communities we serve. Our 2024 CR&S Week is a testament to this dedication, and we are excited to amplify our efforts in enabling the Giants in the lives of our communities and enhancing sustainable development and community growth.”

She concluded by inviting all to join in the celebration: “As we mark FirstBank’s Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Week, we encourage everyone to embrace the spirit of kindness and come together to weave kindness into the fabric of our daily lives, leaving a lasting impact on one another.”
