Gospel Singer Omije Ojumi Passes Away

By Ayomide Otitoju

The family of Nigerian gospel singer and minister, Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, has confirmed her passing.

In a statement released on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the family said the renowned gospel artiste died at a hospital in Lagos.

Omije Ojumi, whose stage name means “tears of the eyes,” was celebrated for her deeply spiritual and emotional ministrations, often marked by tears during worship.

Concerns about her health had emerged in October 2025 when videos circulated showing her visibly weak and struggling to speak during a spiritual programme. In one clip, she reportedly had difficulty identifying herself and was seen with a plaster on her right hand, suggesting recent medical treatment. The videos prompted an outpouring of prayers and support from fans and fellow gospel ministers across Nigeria.

She was widely admired for her passionate worship sessions and soul-stirring songs, which left a lasting impact on audiences both within and beyond the Nigerian gospel music scene.
