Energy giant Kosmos Energy has confirmed its participation as a sponsor at the MSGBC Oil, Gas and Power 2025 Conference and Exhibition, scheduled to take place from December 8–10 in Dakar, Senegal. The company’s involvement underscores its commitment to advancing strategic gas projects and strengthening partnerships across West Africa’s expanding LNG sector.
At the forefront of regional gas development, Kosmos Energy has achieved major operational milestones over the past year. In partnership with bp (operator), Senegal’s national oil company Petrosen, and Mauritania’s Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures (SMH), the company celebrated the first LNG export from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project in April 2025. The Gimi FLNG vessel reached commercial operations in June 2025, marking a key step for the region’s first large-scale offshore LNG project located along the Senegal-Mauritania maritime border.
The GTA project began LNG production in February 2025, with its first phase targeting 2.3 million tons per annum (mtpa). Plans are now underway for a second phase, which aims to boost output to 5 mtpa. The project’s success has positioned Senegal and Mauritania among global gas exporters and confirmed the viability of large-scale offshore investments in the MSGBC basin.
Building on this momentum, Kosmos Energy is spearheading development of the Yakaar-Teranga project in Senegal—an onshore-offshore gas initiative estimated to hold up to 25 trillion cubic feet of reserves. Operated by Kosmos in partnership with Petrosen, the project is currently seeking new partners to advance its next phase of development.
While the GTA project is export-focused, Yakaar-Teranga is designed to meet domestic gas demand at low cost, complemented by an offshore LNG facility for international exports. The project targets 550 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, with domestic supply delivered to onshore facilities via pipeline—enhancing Senegal’s energy independence and positioning it as a regional LNG hub.
