MoMo PSB has intensified efforts to promote financial inclusion with a community-focused literacy campaign in Iraboko, Awoyaya, aimed at equipping residents with digital financial skills.
The initiative, held during the handover of a Y’ello Box digital centre, brought together hundreds of residents, with a strong focus on empowering women to better navigate the digital economy and improve household financial security.
Recent data from the Central Bank of Nigeria indicates that financial inclusion in the country stands at 74 per cent as of the first half of 2025, leaving a significant gap toward the National Financial Inclusion Strategy target of 95 per cent. The shortfall presents an opportunity for financial service providers to expand access to underserved communities.
Acting Chief Commercial Officer of MoMo PSB, Victor Onyebuchi, said the initiative is designed to ensure that economic value generated within local communities is retained to support sustainable growth. He noted that the programme positions the digital hub not only as a connectivity centre but also as a platform for economic empowerment.
The training sessions, led by MoMo officials under the supervision of Chief Compliance Officer Deborah Odo-Effimi, focused on secure digital transactions, SIM registration, and basic business management skills.
Participants also received incentives to encourage the adoption of digital banking tools, including solar-powered fans, umbrellas, and branded materials distributed through on-site engagement activities.
As part of the empowerment drive, selected residents were awarded grants and point-of-sale (POS) devices to support small business development. Two beneficiaries received ₦100,000 each alongside POS terminals to kick-start or expand their enterprises.
The initiative underscores MoMo PSB’s commitment to deepening financial inclusion and fostering grassroots economic development through targeted community interventions.
