As the July 10 deadline for voter registration approaches, the Youth Wing of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers State, alongside party leaders, has called on youths and supporters to participate actively in the ongoing registration exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The call was made during the party’s first Youth Congress Meeting held in Port Harcourt, where stakeholders focused on mobilising eligible voters across the state.
Party officials urged youth leaders from the 23 local government areas to intensify sensitisation efforts within their communities, encouraging residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the electoral process.
The party’s Non-Indigenes Coordinator, Prosper Olleanya, also stressed the importance of taking advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise.
Similarly, the State Youth Leader, Tonwe Nelson, announced plans for a 500,000-person voter sensitisation march scheduled for next week, aimed at boosting awareness and participation among young voters.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, the governorship candidate of the NDC in Rivers State, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, who said he has been confirmed as the party’s flagbearer pending issuance of his Certificate of Return, urged Nigerians to take voter registration seriously.
He described voter registration as a key democratic tool for citizens seeking meaningful change in governance.
With the deadline drawing near, the NDC said it will sustain grassroots mobilisation and awareness campaigns across Rivers State to ensure wider voter registration, particularly among young people ahead of the 2027 elections.
