The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a clergyman, identified as Prophet Adefolusho Abbas Ajakaiye, in connection with the trafficking of large quantities of cannabis into Nigeria.
NDLEA operatives apprehended Ajakaiye on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church on Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road, Lekki, after a day-long surveillance operation. Officers allowed him to complete his Sunday service before detaining him as he exited the premises.
The arrest followed months of pursuit, during which the suspect allegedly evaded capture twice and fled to Ghana in June. He is accused of masterminding the trafficking of two shipments of “Ghana Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis.
The NDLEA said the first consignment, weighing 200kg, was intercepted at Okun Ajah beach on June 4, 2025, while a second, weighing 700kg, was seized from his delivery van on July 6, 2025.
In his statement, the suspect admitted moving the consignments via waterways from Ghana and confirmed fleeing abroad to avoid arrest.
The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to apprehending and prosecuting drug traffickers, regardless of their social or professional status.
