A non-governmental organisation, Incorporated Trustees of Legal Defence Against Injustice Initiative, has filed a suit at the Abuja High Court against Adedapo Segun, Chief Financial Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), over the alleged diversion of more than N140 billion (about $325 million) linked to the acquisition of OVH Energy.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the group is asking the Court to compel Segun—who previously served as NNPCL’s Executive Vice President, Downstream—to remit the funds to the Federal Government’s treasury.
The suit, marked CV/3104/2025 and filed by the plaintiff’s counsel, Festus Ugo, also seeks an order directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to prosecute Segun in connection with both the OVH Energy transaction and projects relating to the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries.
“An order… directing the 1st defendant to pay forthwith into the treasury of the Federal Government of Nigeria [through the 2nd and 3rd defendants] the total sum of $325.09 million (N140.559 billion).”
“An order… directing the 2nd and 3rd defendants to forthwith prosecute the 1st defendant in relation to the roles he played in connection with the acquisition of OVH Energy… and the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt and Warri Refineries.”
The defendants listed in the suit are Segun, the EFCC, and the AGF. In addition to seeking a refund and prosecution, the NGO is also asking for a perpetual injunction barring Segun from holding public office in the future.
The legal action comes amid recent EFCC disclosures of funds recovered from contractors and NNPCL officials. The plaintiff argued that, despite these revelations, no formal charges have been initiated, making judicial intervention necessary.
In a supporting affidavit, a litigation secretary maintained that the case was filed in good faith under the Oaths Act, 2004, stressing the importance of transparency and urgent accountability in the management of public resources.
