Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Chelsea striker Liam Delap for a club-record £45 million.
The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract at the City Ground, making Forest his third club in three seasons after falling out of favour at Chelsea.
Delap was reportedly not part of Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso’s plans and had been training separately from the first team at Stamford Bridge. His No. 9 shirt was also reassigned to Joao Pedro.
Speaking after completing the move, Delap said Alonso’s approach at Forest could help him continue his development.
“I spoke to the manager and I like his way. I think he can be the one to really help me develop and make that next step,” he said.
Delap also expressed his excitement about playing in front of Forest supporters at the City Ground and helping the club challenge among the Premier League’s top sides.
The former England youth international joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town for £30 million a year ago but scored only two goals in all competitions last season.
Chelsea will make a profit on the striker following his departure, while Delap could make his Forest debut against Liverpool on Saturday.
However, it remains to be seen whether manager Oliver Glasner will hand the new signing an immediate start.
