Savio Scores on Tottenham Debut in 5-1 Win

Tottenham Hotspur new signing Savio marked his debut with a goal as Spurs cruised to a 5-1 victory over Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup.

Tottenham completed the £85 million signing of the 22-year-old from Manchester City on Tuesday, ending their long pursuit of the Brazil international.

Introduced in the 71st minute, Savio made an immediate impact, scoring in the 82nd minute with a low, powerful effort into the bottom corner.

The winger appeared to have scored a second three minutes later after cutting inside and seeing his shot deflect off Ben Davies, although Davies was eventually credited with the goal.

Mikey Moore, Dominic Solanke and Kevin Danso were also on target as Roberto De Zerbi’s side secured a place in the third round.

The victory provided a welcome response for Spurs after their 3-0 defeat to Brentford on the opening day of the Premier League season.

De Zerbi made five changes to his starting XI, while Charlton manager Nathan Jones made wholesale changes to his side.

Charlton suffered two injury setbacks early in the match, with Collins Sichenje stretchered off with a suspected serious knee injury before Billy Koumetio was also forced to leave the pitch.

Tottenham took control before the break, with Moore opening the scoring in the 41st minute after cutting inside and seeing his left-footed strike go in off the crossbar.

Solanke doubled the advantage shortly afterwards, firing home after Charlton failed to clear a corner.

Danso added a third with his first touch after heading in Mateus Fernandes’ 67th-minute free-kick.

Savio then took centre stage, scoring his first Tottenham goal before adding to the celebrations with his involvement in Davies’ goal.

Charlton pulled one back through Lloyd Jones’ powerful back-post header, but Tottenham comfortably secured the victory, with Savio emerging as the standout performer on his debut.
