The National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC) has sustained its stakeholder engagement drive with a high-level consultative meeting involving leading tax advisory firms, professional bodies and institutional representatives, as part of efforts to ensure the effective implementation of Nigeria’s newly enacted tax laws.
The consultative session brought together national presidents of key institutions and senior tax partners from major advisory firms, reflecting broad-based industry participation in the reform process.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the NTPIC, Mr. Joseph Tegbe, said the success of the tax reforms would depend more on effective change management than on policy design alone. He stressed the importance of clear communication and public trust, while reaffirming the Committee’s commitment to engaging sub-national governments through the Joint Revenue Board and other platforms to harmonise interpretation, build capacity and ensure alignment across federal and state tax administrations.
Participants at the session welcomed the reforms, describing them as timely and structural, and aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s fiscal framework rather than generating short-term revenue gains. Discussions were framed within the Federal Government’s broader reform agenda to achieve long-term fiscal sustainability under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
While commending the robustness of the legislative framework, stakeholders emphasised the need for consistent interpretation across institutions and clear operational guidelines to prevent fragmented enforcement. They also called for deliberate, coordinated and simplified public education strategies to clarify the implications of the reforms for individuals, small businesses and corporate entities, while upholding principles of fairness, proportionality and national development.
In his closing remarks, Tegbe thanked participants for their contributions and reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to continuous consultation and the timely resolution of identified issues.
The NTPIC Chairman was joined at the meeting by the Chairman of the Stakeholder Engagement Subcommittee, Barrister Ismael Ahmed; the Chairman of the Technical Subcommittee, Mr. Ajibola Olomola; and members of the NTPIC Secretariat.
