Ogun tax payers tasked on regular remittance

By Bukola Abdulsalam

In its determination to boost revenue and ensure that all taxable adults in Ogun State voluntarily perform their civic responsibilities by paying their taxes regularly, the State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) has reminded tax payers to settle their tax liabilities in accordance with the tax law.

The Head, Enforcement Unit of OGIRS, Mr. Tobi Adeyoola in a chat with OGIS correspondent in Abeokuta, said the Service had embarked on a compliance drive exercise across the State and border towns, to enlighten the residents on the need to abide by law.

Adeyoola explained that the exercise is a notice of demand and intention to apply to the High Court for an order to levy a distress for non-payment of tax, stating that it was a continuous one.

“So far so good, revenue has increased and we have been able to cover Abeokuta, Sango-Ota, Ijebu, Isheri, Sagamu, Ogijo, Ifo, Ewekoro and Itori, as well as neighboring States, such as Lagos. The tax authority will ensure a fair, reliable and transparent application of tax laws towards assisting the populace to perform their civic responsibility”, he said.
