The Managing Director of Trust African News, Mr. Ayomide Otitoju, has extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Iyara, Ijumu ahead of the 2026 New Yam Festival scheduled to hold on Monday, June 15, across several communities in Ijumu Local Government Area, Kogi State
In a goodwill message, Otitoju described the annual festival as a significant cultural event that celebrates the rich heritage of the people and marks the successful harvest of yam and other agricultural produce for the 2026 farming season.
He congratulated residents of Iyara, Ogidi, Ayetoro-Ijumu, Ikirin, Ikirinde, Ijunu, Eyoron and other communities participating in the celebration, noting that the festival remains a symbol of unity, gratitude and communal development.
The media executive also commended farmers across the state for their dedication and hard work in ensuring a successful harvest season, emphasizing the vital role agriculture plays in sustaining local economies and food security.
Otitoju further praised the Women Leader of Iyara, Ijumu Local Government Area, Mrs. Janet Olarenwaju, for her contributions to community development and women empowerment. He acknowledged her efforts in promoting unity among women and supporting initiatives that have positively impacted the people of Iyara and surrounding communities.
He encouraged residents to use the occasion of the New Yam Festival to strengthen community bonds, preserve cultural values and celebrate the achievements of local farmers.
Addressing security concerns, Otitoju called on both the Federal and Kogi State Governments to intensify efforts to protect communities and farmlands from criminal activities, including banditry and attacks on farmers. He stressed the need for improved security arrangements during and beyond the festival period to guarantee the safety of residents and visitors.
He also advocated increased investment in rural infrastructure, including road rehabilitation, street lighting, healthcare facilities, education and industrial development, noting that such interventions would enhance the quality of life in communities across the state.
The Trust African News Managing Director further urged government authorities to address rising food prices and economic challenges affecting residents, expressing hope that improved conditions would enable more families to fully participate in the festival celebrations.
Otitoju extended his appreciation to traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, local government officials and members of the House of Representatives for their contributions to the development of Kogi State.
He concluded by praying for peace, prosperity and divine protection for the people of Kogi State, expressing confidence that the 2026 New Yam Festival would be a memorable and successful celebration of culture, harvest and community spirit.
