Tinubu Nominates Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance

By Ayomide Otitoju

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite.

The nomination was conveyed to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, according to a statement issued Tuesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.

Uzoka-Anite has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third portfolio in the administration. She was initially appointed Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment in August 2023 before being reassigned as Minister of State for Finance in October 2024.

Oyedele, a former Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, was appointed in July 2023 to lead the tax reform initiative. A fiscal policy partner and Africa tax leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), he has over two decades of professional experience, having joined the firm in 2001.

The 50-year-old economist and accountant holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and has completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

He is also a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.

Oyedele’s nomination follows President Tinubu’s assent on June 26, 2025, to four major tax reform bills — the Nigeria Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill — which were passed by the National Assembly after months of debate.

The new tax laws, which took effect on January 1, 2026, are aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s tax administration system, boosting revenue generation, improving the business environment, and attracting both domestic and foreign investment.
