Trump Launches $80 Billion Nuclear Plan to Power AI Growth

The Trump administration has announced a new $80 billion strategic partnership aimed at expanding nuclear power generation across the United States to support the growing energy demands of artificial intelligence (AI) deployment.

According to a statement released Tuesday by Brookfield Asset Management, the initiative—developed in partnership with Westinghouse Electric Company and Cameco Corporation—envisions the construction of “at least $80 billion of new reactors” nationwide to “accelerate nuclear power and artificial intelligence deployment in America.”

While no specific timeline was disclosed, a Brookfield spokesperson said the effort aligns with President Trump’s May executive order calling for the design and construction of 10 new large reactors by 2030. The U.S. government will provide the initial capital to launch the project, the spokesperson added.

The partnership represents Washington’s most significant investment in nuclear energy since Trump’s return to the White House in January, underscoring the administration’s push to expand domestic energy capacity amid surging AI-driven power consumption.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright described the initiative as a key step toward realizing the president’s vision to “fully energize America and win the global AI race.”

In addition to enhancing national security and technological competitiveness, the project is expected to deliver major economic benefits. Each two-unit Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear facility could sustain approximately 45,000 manufacturing and engineering jobs across 43 states, with full national deployment projected to generate over 100,000 construction jobs, according to the joint statement.

The move follows similar efforts by Google and Microsoft, which have launched their own nuclear initiatives to meet the surging energy requirements of AI infrastructure.
