Ukraine announced Sunday that it had targeted a second key bridge in Russia’s Kursk region, aiming to disrupt Moscow’s supply routes as Kyiv’s incursion into Russian territory extended into its second week. Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk confirmed the strike via Telegram, releasing an aerial video showing the explosion near Zvannoye. The attack’s timing was not specified, though Russian military bloggers posted photos of the damage dated Saturday.
The destruction of the bridge, along with a previously announced strike on a bridge in Glushkovo, has left Russia with limited crossing options on the Seym River, according to Russian military sources. Moscow reported that the damage had hindered evacuation efforts and increased pressure on the region, where over 120,000 people have fled since fighting intensified.
In eastern Ukraine, Russia claimed the capture of Svyrydonivka, a village 15 kilometers from the strategic hub of Pokrovsk. Russian forces have been inching closer to Pokrovsk, which is critical for supplying Ukrainian troops. Pokrovsk’s military head, Sergiy Dobryak, warned that Russian troops are now just over 10 kilometers from the city and urged remaining residents to evacuate.
In Kyiv, Ukrainian forces thwarted a Russian missile attack early Sunday morning. This marks the third ballistic missile attack on the capital in August, with the Kyiv City Military Administration noting a pattern of six-day intervals between attacks. No casualties or damage were reported.
Ukrainian drones also targeted an oil storage facility in Russia’s Rostov region early Sunday, causing a large fire in Proletarsk. Local Governor Vasily Golubev reported that air defenses repelled the drone attack, but falling debris ignited a diesel fire. No injuries were reported, and firefighting resumed after a brief suspension due to a second drone strike.
The Ukrainian intelligence source indicated that the targeted facilities are part of Russia’s military-industrial complex. Kyiv has previously stated that such attacks are retaliatory measures against strikes on its own energy infrastructure.
In other developments, Ukrainian authorities in Donetsk reported that Russian air strikes killed four civilians and injured several others. In Kherson, a drone attack on a car injured five people.
