Wema Bank MD/CEO Initiative Gives Kids One-Day Leadership Role

By Ayomide Otitoju

Wema Bank has announced a final call for entries for its 2026 One-Day MD/CEO Children’s Day initiative as the submission deadline of May 20, 2026, draws near.

Launched in 2025 as part of the bank’s 80th anniversary celebrations, the initiative is designed to mark Children’s Day by giving young Nigerians a rare opportunity to step into the role of Managing Director/CEO for one day. The programme, themed “80 Years of Impact, A Future of Possibilities,” is aimed at inspiring children while showcasing leadership and career possibilities in the banking sector.

Following its debut edition, which saw 12-year-old Chiderije Mbah emerge winner and assume the symbolic leadership role in 2025, the bank says the initiative has returned on a larger scale for 2026.

For this year’s edition, children and teenagers aged 0–16 will compete for the opportunity to become MD/CEO of Wema Bank for a day during the Children’s Day celebration on May 25, 2026. The winner will participate in executive activities including board meetings and strategic decision-making sessions, offering firsthand exposure to leadership in one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions and pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT.

To participate, applicants are required to upload a 60-second video outlining their ideal role in banking and career aspirations. Entries must be posted on social media using the hashtag #EvolutionOfPossibilities and tagging @wemabank. The submission with the highest number of likes will be selected as the winner.

The bank urged parents and guardians to encourage eligible children to submit their entries before the deadline, noting that only a few days remain before applications close.
