Zenith Bank Plc has announced the appointment of Mustafa Bello as Chairman of its Board of Directors, following approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria and ratification by shareholders at the bank’s Annual General Meeting held on May 5, 2026.
The appointment takes immediate effect and is expected to strengthen board continuity, stability, and governance standards at the lender, which is widely regarded for its strong regulatory compliance and strategic oversight.
Bello, who joined the board in December 2017, has served on several key committees, including the Board Audit and Compliance Committee and the Board Governance, Nomination and Remuneration Committee. He also previously chaired the Board Risk Management Committee.

He also supervised the 2002 digital transformation initiative at the Corporate Affairs Commission.
Between 2003 and 2014, he was Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, where he played a key role in attracting foreign direct investment and fostering international partnerships.

He currently chairs Invest-in-Northern Nigeria Limited and has served on the boards of Eskom Holdings Limited in South Africa and FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria.
