Lagos State Signs MoU for Solar Power Systems with Chinese Firm

Beijing, China – The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese company to install solar power systems at key educational institutions, including Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State College of Medicine.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the agreement during the Africa-China Cooperation Summit (#FOCAC2024) in Beijing, where he was accompanied by President Bola Tinubu. The solar project aims to generate approximately 50 megawatts of cleaner, more affordable electricity.

Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the initiative would reduce the institutions’ dependence on grid electricity and fossil fuels, contributing to environmental sustainability. President Tinubu, who witnessed the signing, emphasized the importance of such collaborations in advancing Nigeria’s energy transition and reducing its carbon footprint.
