By Ayomide Otitoju

In a bold move to bolster Nigeria’s creative arts sector, FirstBank has launched Bluu TV, a new entertainment hub dedicated to showcasing African storytelling and innovation. The unveiling, held on Friday, also marked the premiere of A Heart on the Line, an original series on the platform.

Speaking at the event, Segun Alebiosu, FirstBank’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the transformative potential of the creative arts to drive economic growth. Represented by Idowu Thompson, Group Executive, Private Banking and Wealth Management, Alebiosu highlighted the bank’s long-standing commitment to promoting arts and culture through initiatives like the First@Arts program.

“We recognize the significance of the creative arts in shaping culture, promoting values, and inspiring positive change,” Alebiosu said. “Over the years, FirstBank has been deliberate about supporting this developing sector as a key driver of Nigeria’s economic progress.”

The First@Arts initiative has sponsored landmark events such as the stage play Kurunmi and the Lagos International Theatre Festival, demonstrating the bank’s dedication to fostering creativity, productivity, and job creation within the industry.

The launch of Bluu TV marks another milestone for the financial institution. Alebiosu described it as a platform that not only provides entertainment but also nurtures unity, education, and innovation. “This youth-centric initiative positions us as early adopters of a transformative vision for the industry,” he added.

Abimbola Craig, Director and Producer of A Heart on the Line, expressed gratitude for FirstBank’s unwavering support. “This project has been two-and-a-half years in the making,” Craig said. “It takes remarkable patience, understanding, and determination to bring an idea to life. Thanks to FirstBank’s support, Bluu TV is now a reality.”

The launch underscores FirstBank’s role as a trailblazer in supporting the creative arts industry, reaffirming its position as a bank deeply woven into the cultural and economic fabric of Nigerian society.
